We believe in a bottom-up approach to change that sits at the heart of our zero waste model. By helping empower local groups and communities to redesign their relationship with nature and resources, we can make truly lasting change. This is why we support local groups and communities to become zero waste, helping to bring several benefits beyond just protecting the environment, but also by creating thriving local economies and more cohesive communities.
At the same time, a big part of our work consists in creating frameworks and vehicles for implementation of zero waste solutions at local level. We do so by working with municipalities, businesses, NGOs and investors in projects; or with spin-offs such as MiZA.

By issuing Social Impact Bonds, ZWE is committed to creating a precedent, proving that with the right commitments (including financing), we can shift to a zero waste society and accelerate it.
Established as a separate entity from ZWE and running the world’s first Zero Waste Cities Certification, MiZA is the capacity-building hub for local decision-makers, SMEs, and other organisations wanting to take a step forward in their zero waste strategies and circular economy implementation.
ZWE believes that the transition from disposability to reuse has to happen for most of today’s current single-use applications, and we aim to change the whole packaging landscape in the long run. However, this transition will take time and the Reuse Vanguard Project intends to get us moving in the right direction.
