In March 2022, governments worldwide recognised the urgent need to develop a legally binding treaty addressing the growing problem of plastic pollution.

The UNEA resolution led to the establishment of an Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC), which aims to have completed its work by the end of 2024, with a treaty ready for ratification.

Zero Waste Europe is participating in the INC negotiations in order to ensure that:

  • The European best practices are considered;
  • The bad practices are avoided; and
  • To share our experience on zero waste solutions with the rest of the world.
