The Zero Waste Cities approach is an ongoing commitment to eliminating waste at its source. Instead of burning or burying waste, it focuses on designing and implementing systems that prevent waste generation from the outset.
The Zero Waste Cities programme by Zero Waste Europe and its member organisation has existed since 2007. During this time, over 450 European municipalities have committed to become a zero waste city. These municipalities are captured within this category and are in the process of transitioning over to the new Zero Waste Cities Certification.
These are the stories of cities across Europe driving a new wave of hope, resilience, and transformation. By reimagining how they live, produce, and consume, these communities prove that change is not only possible, it's already underway.
