Londonderry, United Kingdom
Zero Waste North Waste is a local manifestation of a global movement and are a completely voluntary group who work in the community, in schools and with businesses to model ZWCE practice, using creative, innovative and fun methods to transform people’s relationship to waste.

Zero Waste North West began from a campaign to stop an incinerator being built outside Derry City in the North West of Northern Ireland. But at that point, the organization realised that that was not enough, and it was then that they discovered Zero Waste.

The organization also work with the local council to support the implementation of a Zero Waste Circular Economy Strategy, unanimously adopted by Derry City and Strabane District council in December 2017. In November 2020, Londonderry became the first city region in the UK or Ireland to become a candidate city region for ZWE’s new accreditation process and also to be one of its pilot city regions to harness the learning from the process.
