Revision of the Waste from Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive

Alongside a coalition of European environmental organisations, Zero Waste Europe calls for the revision of the WEEE Directive to prioritise prevention, durability, repairability, and reuse over waste management alone.

Electronics production and disposal deplete scarce resources, while e-waste’s potential as a source of critical raw materials remains largely untapped. Recycling alone won’t solve Europe’s resource crisis, a WEEE revision focused only on collection and recycling misses the bigger picture.

The signatories call for dedicated waste prevention targets and for Extended Producer Responsibility to genuinely drive prevention, durability, repairability, and reuse, not just fund waste management.
