Former Deputy Mayor of the city of Parma

Gabriele Folli, formerly activist in Zero Waste campaigns, was appointed Deputy Mayor for Environment in the city of Parma (Italy) in 2012, where he introduced kerbside collection and a pay-as-you-throw scheme for the whole population (195,000 inhabitants; the first case of this size in Italy) passing from 48% to 80% in less than 5 years. He has explained the path followed in many conferences and seminars around Europe (Madrid, Girona, Rome, Bari, Naples, Kassel, Brussels, Florence and Paris among the others).

Marco has 20 years Experience in planning MSW management, designing collection schemes by minimizing residual waste, assessing recycling facilities (focus on composting), planning communication and participation initiatives, chairing multi-linguistic, multi-tasking working groups or projects. He has 15 year foreign working experience as consulting expert focusing on issues related to solid waste management. Extensive consultancy experience in the Solid Waste Sector – on Strategy and Policy, Fees&Taxes, Separate collection schemes, both in ´advanced´ and ´low to middle income’ countries in Europe, Latin America and Asia. With a specific engagement for MSW solutions in cities he supported the City of Milan (Italy) in setting up the recycling scheme for food waste in 2012; he guided the City of Bolzano (Italy) for realizing intensive sorting of food waste in 2004 and applying PAYT in 2013; in 2016 he completed the strategy for organic waste diversion and recycling for the Mega-City of Sao Paulo do Brazil on behalf of ISWA and UN-CCAC.

Ignasi Puig

Industrial engineer, Economist, MS, PhD

Ignasi Puig Ventosa is an industrial engineer (Politechnical University of Catalonia – UPC), economist (Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia – UNED) and holds a PhD in Environmental Sciences (Autonomous University of Barcelona – UAB). He also holds a Master on Monitoring, Modelling and Management of Environmental Change (King’s College London). His main research area is the use of market-based instruments related to environmental policy, with particular focus on municipal waste management. He has written several books on this topic, along with a number of technical and scientific papers in national and international peer-reviewed journals (including: Journal of Cleaner Production. Ecological Economics, Waste Management & Research, Waste Management, Journal of Material Cycles and Waste Management, etc.). He works as head of projects at ENT Environment and Management and Fundació ENT in Barcelona, which are a consultancy and a private research centre.

Esra Tat - Moderator

Network and Development Coordinator at Zero Waste Europe

Esra Tat leads on the strategic development of the ZWE network and coordinates the Zero Waste Cities programme with its knowledge platform, the Zero Waste Masterplan, and the flagship “Zero Waste Municipality” mentoring and recognition programme. She is in charge of designing and further developing the tools to promote and accelerate Zero Waste strategies at the local level. In support of the ZWE members, she also oversees the recognition programme at the European level. Previously ,with a background on project management and environment, Esra co-directed a social enterprise and worked as a programme manager on energy efficiency and eco-housing programs. Esra holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration and Management.
