#LIFEBIOBEST: Bio-waste quality as a driver for high-quality compost and digestate

Registration

High-quality bio-waste is essential for producing high-quality compost and digestate through biological recycling. While the EU has yet to establish a unified standard for bio-waste quality control as per §22 (3) of the Waste Framework Directive, several countries and regions have already taken proactive steps. Germany, for example, has implemented impurity control and rejection values in national regulation, with the latest amendment to the Bio-waste Ordinance in effect since 1 May 2025.

This webinar will highlight existing approaches to bio-waste quality assessment at national and regional levels, focusing on established quality standards and methodologies applied before the treatment process. We will explore practical examples from Germany, Italy, and Catalonia (Spain).

The session is based on the newly published LIFE BIOBEST report D5.3: Proposal for quality standards for bio-waste entering biological recycling facilities.
