Gaël works in the European Commission where he leads the team dealing with EU policies related to waste shipments, the Basel Convention, end-of-life vehicles, ship recycling and waste from extractive industries. This role includes working with Member States, international organisations, industry and civil society on the implementation and enforcement of EU legislation related to waste, especially to address illegal shipments of waste. In his early career in the European Commission, he was in charge of the EU policy on wildlife trade, where he was spearheading the EU approach against wildlife trafficking, in close cooperation with enforcement agencies, Europol and international bodies.

Emmanuel is the Secretary General of the European Recycling Industries’ Confederation (EuRIC) since September 2014. Emmanuel is responsible for the continuous development of the Confederation which represents today, through its Member Federations, more than 5.500 recycling businesses across Europe processing different waste streams (household, commercial & industrial waste, WEEE, ELVs, tyres, textiles). Raising awareness about the instrumental role played by recycling in sustainable development and fostering recycling friendly policy measures are among his priorities. Emmanuel is a regular speaker in international conferences dealing with recycling and a member of different expert groups set up by European institutions aiming at supporting the transition towards a more circular economy. Emmanuel is graduated in European law from the College of Europe and the University of Paris II Pantheon-Assas.
