GAIA 2015 Global Meeting and Climate Justice Mobilizations in Paris, France and Barcelona, Spain

~ Summarized Agenda ~

Meeting goals

  • Celebrate and reflect on our history as a network – with an aim of renewing GAIA’s mission and vision in keeping with all that we’ve learned over the last 15 years.
  • Look forward – we want to take time to strategize, discuss key campaigns and projects, and consult with network leaders from around the world about the direction and scope of our cross-border work.
  • Develop/deepen relationships among key GAIA members from each region in order to strengthen our leadership core – there is nothing like time spent together for building community and alignment, and we believe that one of the most important outcomes of this meeting will be to strengthen member engagement, leadership, and connectivity.

Key Meeting and Strategizing Moments

Delegates to the global meeting will be spending many days together, and all of the activities that are part of the next few weeks will be interconnected and aimed at helping us to reach our goals.

These events start with the 2nd International Gathering against Cement Kiln Incineration and for Zero Waste (November 27-29). The strategies that are discussed here will be brought to the GAIA Global Meeting in Paris and shared with all of us.

Then we will spend five days together in Paris. The time we spend together will include:

  • Three days of intensive meeting, discussion, and networking time (November 30-December 2).
  • A day-long public conference on the connection between zero waste and climate change (December 3). Several GAIA members will give presentations at this event on their work for zero waste solutions and against incineration.
  • Additional thematic and open space strategizing time on the morning of December 4.
  • Another half-day public conference on the connection between zero waste and agroecology solutions for climate action, to be held in Le Bourget on the afternoon of December 4.
  • A party on December 4 at 8pm, to celebrate GAIA’s 15th Anniversary!

On December 5th some of our group will be leaving to go home, and others will stay and participate in GAIA’s COP21 delegation. Details of our December 5-12 agenda will be presented in Paris.

A summarized agenda for our strategizing and meeting time at FIAP is presented below. Please note that some changes may still be made to the agenda. Many members have offered their help with agenda preparation, facilitation and notetaking – thank you!
